As you all probably know by now, Paul Friedrich passed away on August 11. He was a remarkable figure who occupies a special place in the hearts of multiple generations of students, friends, and colleagues. Below please find links to two very moving obituaries:

Again, as you may already know, William Beeman has arranged a remembrance session to be held at AAA on Friday November 18 at approximately noon; room details will be in the meetings program, or contact Professor Beeman for developments at wbeeman@umn.edu. As he suggested in an earlier e-mail circulated through the linganth list, people might bring correspondence they have had from Paul Friedrich over the years and read excerpts for all to enjoy during this session; or if there is not enough time for everyone to speak, letters might be posted on a Facebook page, or distributed in other ways.
