Call for Papers, JLA Special Issue on Language and White Supremacy

REVISED CALL FOR PAPERS

Journal of Linguistic Anthropology special issue on

LANGUAGE AND WHITE SUPREMACY

Guest Editors: Krystal Smalls, Arthur Spears, and Jonathan Rosa

(*Revised call for papers on race, racism, and racialization)

This revised call of the Journal of Linguistic Anthropology encourages scholars whose work specifically engages White supremacy to submit pieces for timely review and publication. In particular, submissions should advance our theoretical discussions about the connections between language and systemic racism’s methods and practices, from institutional permeations to everyday interactions.

Scholarship in interdisciplinary dialogue with approaches including criminal justice and legal studies, media studies, Black Studies, Ethnic Studies, education studies, gender and sexuality studies, queer studies, science and technology studies, disability studies, linguistics, sociolinguistics, cultural anthropology, political anthropology, medical anthropology, and visual anthropology, among others, is especially encouraged.

The goal is to have accepted work published in the December issue of volume 30 (2020).

There are three ways in which you can participate in this endeavor:

1) If you are interested in submitting your work, please familiarize yourself with the journal’s submission procedures (https://linguisticanthropology.org/journal/) and send any correspondence to all 3 guest editors: Krystal Smalls (ksmalls@illinois.edu), Arthur Spears (arspears1676@gmail.com), and Jonathan Rosa (jdrosa@stanford.edu).

If you have not done so already, please send your questions or expressions of interest by JULY 31, 2020

You may also contact JLA Co-Editor Chaise LaDousa (cladousa@hamilton.edu) for general inquiries related to this issue or other issues.

2) If you are interested in writing a book review of a book pertaining to language and white supremacy, please write to JLA’s book review editor, Christina Davis (c-davis@wiu.edu).

3) Finally, if you want to support this endeavor by serving as a reviewer for article manuscripts, please write to the guest editors or journal co-editors. Your participation via review is deeply appreciated.

The deadline for the submission of article manuscripts is SEPT 15, 2020 and the deadline for other types of submissions is OCT 15, 2020
