The Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Irvine, invites applications for two tenure-track positions in sociocultural anthropology beginning July 1, 2012. One position will be at the Assistant Professor level, and the second will be at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level. The Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment.
We welcome applicants with a strong record of ethnographic fieldwork and theoretical innovation in one (or ideally two) of the following areas:
1. Environment, science, and technology
2. Language and culture
3. Urban studies
4. Feminist theory Geographic area of expertise is open, but candidates with a research focus in Latin America are particularly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, as well as to incorporating critical attention to gender, race, religion and class in their research and teaching.
