Search for Department Chair, American University

American University seeks applications for an advanced associate or full professor who will serve as Chair of the Department of Anthropology beginning August 2012. Candidate’s subfield and area interests are open. Applicants with equivalent professional experience who are not currently holding academic positions will be considered. Applicants must have a PhD, a substantial publication record and evidence of obtaining external grant support. The successful candidate will have administrative experience and vision, as well as an ongoing research agenda that complements our department’s focus on archaeological, biological, cultural and linguistic public anthropology. Preference will be given to applicants who will participate in the development of teaching and research opportunities that are closely aligned with interdisciplinary initiatives in public history, public health and environmental studies. Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a statement of research, teaching and administrative vision and three letters of recommendation.
